Spelling of surnames is sometimes confusing. Names could be spelled three different ways on one record. The clerk filled in the bulk of the application. The applicants were to sign the application. At the bottom the officiant was to record the actual marriage. In some cases the handwriting is same as clerks. If in doubt as to spelling, the signature of the parties was used.
